Under the direction of the Chief Public Health Officer, manages nursing programs related to public health and school health within the Cambridge Public Health Department. Provides clinical leadership throughout the Public Health Department for the purpose of ensuring quality care and building a healthy community. Represents the clinical regulatory authority of CPHD within the Cambridge Health Alliance and the community.
Job Purpose: Represents the Chief Public Health Officer in his/her absence. Responsible for staying abreast of changes and needs, adjusting services and keeping the Chief Public Health Officer up-to-date. Works with Chief Public Health Officer to implement action plans in response to identified concerns and public health emergencies.; Ensures the delivery of quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and professional standards Actively participate in community activities, Board and State meetings as required; Supervision - Supervise a variety of public health services with a nursing component, which periodically change due to changing guidelines, or shifts in community needs. Responsible for supervising employees so that quality services are provided in an efficient manner and in accordance with all applicable regulatory and nursing requirements; Reviews and maintains policies, procedures and protocols relative to nursing care provided by the Cambridge Public Health Department and other regulatory bodies; Participates and provides leadership, as appropriate, in community and school-based planning activities.; Responsible for effective human resource management within assigned areas including hiring, performance evaluation, and performance improvement. Responsible for effective fiscal management of assigned areas. Consistently develops departmental budgets within designated deadlines according to all budgetary policies and procedures.
Job - Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for operational and clinical excellence in the Tuberculosis (TB) program, School Health program, Public Health Nursing program and Communicable Disease program, Represent CPHD and the role public health in the health care delivery system at the CHA Nurse Executive Council and/or CHA senior leadership.
Education/Training: Master's Degree in Nursing or BSN in Nursing with Master's Degree in Public Health
Licensure: Current Massachusetts Nursing License Certifications: Current AHA BLS "C" Certification
Work Experience: 5 years progressive management in health care and ambulatory nursing Exceptional judgment and discretion in confidential discussions Excellent interpersonal skills, effective leadership skills including teamwork building, communication, collegiality, flexibility, trustworthiness and patience Initiative and ability to work independently Results oriented. Minimum 5years experience in Public Health Nursing: communicable disease control, school nursing and educational and prevention programs.
