This Nurse Educator position is specific for a Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (CWOCN). The CWOCN will be a part of a high-functioning nurse education team. The position reports directly to the ACNO for Professional Practice. This position will lead CHA in designing, implementing and evaluating a pressure injury prevention program to include analysis of data, supplies, equipment and policy/procedure. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and ability to influence practice changes and work in an inter-professional team.
The CWOCN will function as the clinical resource and role model responsible for quality of nursing practice and standards of care related to the delivery of patient care for patient skin, pressure injury prevention, pressure injury/wound care, ostomy management and continence management.
Educates the nursing and provider staff regarding risk assessments, plan of care development and implementation and evaluation of interventions for prevention and treatment of skin issues.
Assists the clinical manager in leading, planning, controlling and evaluating nursing practices and operations as it relates to skin, wound, ostomy and continence care.
Evaluates and/or develops policy and procedure to support the pressure injury prevention program as well as care of patients with skin issues, wounds, ostomies or continence issues.
Evaluates and collaborates on decisions related to products/sup plies related to skin, wounds, ostomies and continence.
Develops and maintains quality improvement activities, including reporting to the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) and evaluation of incidence data related to pressure injuries.
Devises effective control mechanisms to ensure that the physical environment fosters safe patient care. Ensures a review of events to promote learning and patient safety.
Develops and mentors skin champions to enhance resources on nursing units and departments.
Responsible for three Hospital Campuses- Cambridge, Somerville, and Everett.
Education/Training: Bachelors of Nursing from a NLS Accredited School of Nursing. Master's degree in nursing preferred
Licensure: Massachusetts RN license required.
Certifications: Certified Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nurse (CWOCN) required. AHA certification in BLS required
Work Experience: Three to five years nursing experience. Two+ years of experience as a CWOCN preferred.
