Job Purpose: Performs and reports Cytology testing in a manner to promote the efficient operation of the laboratory and provide effective patient care. Duties and Responsibilities include: *familiar with the various methods of cyto-preparation, staining and cover-slipping for all cytologic specimens and troubleshoots the same. *screens and diagnoses gynecologic cytology smears (PAPS) according to established criteria: is responsible for final diagnosis of negative cases. *screens and diagnoses non-gynecologic and atypical gynecological cytology smears according to established criteria and refers to the manager and pathologists. *assists at fine needle aspirations (FNAs) by preparing and staining slides for rapid interpretation. *participates in proficiency testing. *participates in department meetings *works with fellow staff members to analyze workflow processes and conducts QI audits.
Qualifications: Minimum education: BS/BA in a biologic science. Must have a CT (ASCP) certification.
