DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
We are an OB/GYN practice with a multidisciplinary team including Doulas, providing care safely and compassionately for a diverse patient population with OB needs.
We are an OB/GYN practice with a multidisciplinary team including Doulas, providing care safely and compassionately for a diverse patient population with OB needs.
Job Purpose: A doula provides skilled emotional, social and educational support to women during pregnancy, labor, birth and the early post partum period. Doulas assist women who plan to give birth at the Birth Center and the Hospital with particular focus on the culturally specific needs of immigrant women and vulnerable populations. Doulas are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to individual mothers in their care. Doulas do not provide clinical care. However they do work as part of the maternity care team alongside nurses, midwives, doctors and other staff.
Qualifications/Requirements: -Flexibility to be available and manage being on call 24/7 required -Good interpersonal and communication skills required -Ability to travel to multiple sites for home visits and other job duties required -Ability to arrive within designated time for births required -Bicultural, bilingual preferred -Ability to communicate and interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures as well as with multiple health care providers -An interest in helping women during their childbearing experience -Capacity to take initiative and work independently -Literacy in English - speaking, reading and writing well enough to communicate accurately with patients and care team -Experience attending births, home visiting or some maternal and child related work
