DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

The CHA laboratory provides everything from from routine blood and urine tests to special tissue evaluation.   

Summary:
The Histotechnician in this position needs to have experience in sectioning, fixation, embedding, microtomy, processing and staining.

Responsibilities:
• The Histotechnician in this position needs to have experience in sectioning, fixation, embedding, microtomy, processing and staining.
• Performing and evaluating Quality Control
• participating in proficiency testing
• troubleshooting basic instrument problems
• assisting pathology assistant or pathologists in the cutting room
• using a Cryostat for frozen sections *
• working knowledge of Immunohistochemistry (IHC)
• participating in department meetings and team efforts to analyze workflow processes and the performance of QI
Other related duties as assigned

   

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program OR
An Associates degree or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry AND one year full time acceptable experience in histopathology within the last 10 years under the supervision of a pathologist.
Has HT (ASCP) certification
