  • The Department of Orthopedics is an ambulatory clinic with sites in Cambridge, Somerville, and Malden. Services included Orthopedics, Physiatry, and Rheumatology.

    Job Purpose: 1. Assists Provider/Nursing with patient care; properly fits and applies preoperative braces, crutches, and other soft goods; assists in preparation for and application of casts and orthopedic appliances; changes dressings; removes sutures, casts, and splints. 2. Assists Providers/Nursing with orthopedic procedures, including wound care, aspirations, minor surgical procedures, fractured reductions, etc.; instructs patients in cast and traction care and the use of orthopedic appliances. 3. Maintains clean and well-stocked cast and soft goods room; orders special supplies and/or equipment. 4. Coordinated data collection resources for the clinic information systems. 5. Remains current with orthopedic trends, care and supplies; performs other duties as assigned. 6. Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Software, including Excel and Word. 7. Must be able to exercise initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision making skills to achieve organizational objectives. 8. Strict confidentiality regarding physicians, patients, staff and profession contacts. 9. Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks. 10. Ability to work independently and as a team player. 11. Ability to articulate descriptions of orthopedic conditions based upon a basic understanding of anatomical structures and their relationship with one another. 12. Ability to apply and remove upper and lower extremity casts. 13. Understanding of theory and application of skin and skeletal fraction. 14. Understanding of the proper application of aseptic techniques in dressing change and in setting up surgical fields. 15. Other duties as required.

    Education/Training: High School Diploma Certifications: Maintains current Basic Life Support ''C'' certification, Certification from accredited Institution for Orthopedic Professionals within 6 months of hire. Work Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of ambulatory Orthopedic Clinic experience required. Linguistic Capabilities: Knowledge of a second language preferred; required at some clinics.
