Job - Specific Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Accurately creates/maintains a patient profile of health- and insurance-related information in the pharmacy computer system. 2. Accurately registers patients as required and enters prescription orders into the computer systems. 3. Assists patients, family members and/or employees who drop off prescriptions; sets appropriate prescription pick-up expectations. 4. At point of sale, verifies that patient or agent receives correct prescription(s). 5. Assists Ambulatory Pharmacists in filling prescription orders, compounding various non-sterile products, dispensing prescriptions and making the offer to counsel. 6. Assists Ambulatory Pharmacists in handling phone calls from patients and health care providers. 7. Assists Ambulatory Pharmacists in maintaining an accurate perpetual inventory of all schedules II - V controlled substances. 8. Accurately and safely handles cash received from patients. Maintains appropriate records. 9. Places daily order with wholesaler, receives/open/places into inventory all items; completes associated documentation. Organizational Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Complies with CHA service excellence standards - welcoming, informing, noticing, expressing care, and supporting your colleagues. 2. Complies with the CHA policy on confidentiality of information regarding patients, families and co-workers. 3. Reports to work as scheduled and ready to receive assignments; minimal unscheduled absences. 4. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Education/Training: High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate is required. Licensure: N/A. Registration: Must have a current pharmacy technician registration in good standing from the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy or be eligible for registration in MA. In lieu of an active MA registration, candidates must register prior to working 1000 hours at the Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA). Failure to register within this time period will result in the discontinuation of employment at CHA. Certification: Completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved certifying body pharmacy technician certification examination is preferred. Work Experience: Minimum of one year experience as a pharmacy technician is preferred.
Physical Skills: 1. Sufficient mobility to negotiate the hospital. 2. Must be able to withstand extended periods of sitting or standing. 3. Ability to enter data into the computer. 4. Visual acuity, so as to be able to read small print. 5. Ability to tolerate repetitive motion for wrist and arms. 6. Auditory acuity to hear telephones, beepers, alarms. Mental Skills: 1. Cognitive ability to observe, analyze and interpret general, technical and clinical data (verbal and written). 2. Good communication and behavioral skills. 3. Ability to effectively prioritize responsibilities while under pressure. Working Conditions and Physical Environment: 1. Fluorescent lighting, no natural light. 2. Tile floors. 3. Controlled air system. 4. Tight storeroom areas and crowded, sometime congested areas. 5. Locked and secured work area. 6. Physical hazards due to chemicals and electrical. 7. Patient contact in outpatient area. 8. Stocked areas to 7-1/2 feet.
