DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

Lewis 2 is a 22 bed Geri Psych/Behavioral Health Unit for patient population 55+. We provide a vibrant activities program along with special group sessions and programming to provide support. A special group room houses musical instruments, art supplies and other items to engage individual patient strengths and interests. Patients are cared for by an entire team consisting of: Psychiatrists, Registered Nurses, Social Workers, Case Managers, Milieu Therapists and Nursing Assistants.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
The role of a Geri Psych RN is to provide quality patient care according to Cambridge Health Alliance standards of nursing practice and the role expectations of the patient care unit, including administration of medications and treatments. RN must demonstrate ability to respond to medical and psychiatric emergencies in a prompt, precise and professional manner and be able to work in collaboration with nurse manager to provide comprehensive, cost-effective care and to support a problem-solving approach to issues. Assess, plan, document and evaluate patient care in a geriatric locked psychiatric unit. Participates in quality improvement projects. Administers medications and treatments as needed. Acts as a resource for nursing issues and keeps abreast of all aspects of assigned patient care. Contributes to multidisciplinary treatment planning by bringing a nursing focus to team collaboration and contributing to multidisciplinary treatment planning. Communicates effectively with health team members. Interacts effectively with patients, families and significant others. Reports directly to Nurse Manager and will be assigned according to the needs of the unit.

Qualifications/Experience:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current Massachusetts RN license required.
 Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred
Current BLS issued by the American Heart Association Healthcare Providers required.
1 year previous behavioral health & geriatric experience in a locked unit.
Newly hired candidates are required to successfully complete a job specific physical agility test.


$10k Sign-On Bonus (pro-rated for part time employees) for newly hired experienced RNs with 2 years of experience in the specialty hired for.

Newly hired experienced RNs interested in committing to a minimum of two years of employment at Cambridge Health Alliance, may be eligible to receive a retention bonus of $10,000. Part-time employees may be eligible for a prorated retention bonus. Please speak with your HR Advisor for details.
