The Department of Surgery's outpatient clinic practice is a fast-paced, multi-specialty service located at our Cambridge Hospital site, providing comprehensive pre and post-surgical care to patients of the Cambridge Health Alliance in an ambulatory clinic setting. The department provides specialized surgical care which includes but not limited to; general surgery, vascular surgery, podiatry, urology, plastic, otolaryngology, allergy, and thoracic services.
Job Purpose: To provide specialized nursing care to patients referred for surgical consultation including diagnostics, patient education, procedures, and treatments as indicated. Essential job functions are focused on patient experience of care, effective use of resources, teamwork, innovation and quality. The job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to patient assessment, review of diagnostic, medical, and other information, nursing treatment and procedures, assisting providers with procedures and injections, and participating in associated time outs. Evening hours, weekends, and holidays as assigned, shifts with variable start times as assigned. Additional responsibilities include the use of two identifiers when confirming patient identity, labeling correctly, triage, prescription refills through EPIC pool, patient education, coordination of care, authorizations, referrals to other agencies, services and providers, maintenance of clinic flow, equipment, supplies and resources, while adhering to service standards and communicating effectively with all team members and patients.
Qualifications/Requirements: Graduate of NLN accredited school of nursing. All newly hired RN candidates must have a BSN degree within 1 year of hire. Current Massachusetts RN License A strong surgical background is required, 2 years current experience in an ambulatory outpatient/clinic setting required, current urology, otolaryngology/allergy, general/vascular surgery and podiatry experience required. Fluent in Spanish, Portuguese or Haitian Creole preferred. Ambulatory EPIC experience is preferred. AHA BLS required ACLS required.
