  • Job Purpose: School Health Services are provided by the Cambridge Public Health Department through an agreement with the Cambridge Public Schools. The School Health Program is dedicated to helping students in grades K-12 stay healthy and in school so they can reach their academic potential. School nurses provide first aid, medication administration, health counseling, and health education. They are responsible for planning and caring for children with chronic illnesses, linking families to primary care providers, advising school staff, and ensuring that all school children are appropriately immunized. The School Health Program provides full-time coverage in all public schools. This position sits within the Public Health and School Health Nursing Services of the Cambridge Public Health Department.

    Qualifications: Current RN licensure in Massachusetts with a BSN is required. Minimum of two years nursing experience is also required. Community, Pediatric, or School Nursing experience preferred.

    This is a per diem float position requiring skilled nursing. Each school is unique with different health care needs of the school aged child. This position requires critical thinking and skilled nursing assessments within an unfamiliar population. Excellent communication skills, the ability to respond to events effectively and respectfully, and the ability to effectively prioritize competing responsibilities while under pressure is required. The candidate must have demonstrated ability to work with multicultural, multiracial, and multilingual populations.
