We utilize EPIC for our Electronic Health Record (EHR), Pyxis technology for dispensing and have bedside bar coding implemented in all inpatient areas. All of the services we provide are performed with a focus on optimizing clinical outcomes and patient safety, increasing patient satisfaction and improving the financial sustainability of the organization. 

    Job Purpose: Within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures, the Specialist, Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the day-to-day support of departmental operations primarily related to sterile compounding. The Specialist, Pharmacy Operations has extensive knowledge of sterile compounding, both hazardous and non-hazardous and maintains a current knowledge and understanding of USP <797> and USP <800> and MA state regulations. The Specialist, Pharmacy Operations works with the Pharmacy site managers to ensure regulatory compliance related to sterile compounding. Specific responsibilities include: Keeping abreast of changes/updates to both USP <797>, USP <800> and MA state regulations related to sterile compounding. Providing training and annual competency assessments of all inpatient pharmacy staff in the area of sterile compounding. Developing and updating all sterile compounding training materials. Ensuring maximization of all features of Simplifi 797 software. Reviewing and recommending updates to all sterile compounding Policies & Procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) Successfully completing and maintaining an approved Sterile Compounding Training and Certification. Obtaining annual Continuing Education (CE) credits in the area of Sterile Compounding. A commitment to patient safety, customer satisfaction, efficient/effective use of resources, teamwork, innovation and performance improvement is required.

    Qualifications: Education/Training: High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate is required. Work Experience: Minimum of five (5) years experience as a pharmacy technician with sterile compounding experience or three (3) years with a college degree and sterile compounding experience is required. Experience with pharmacy software, automated dispensing systems, purchasing and reimbursement is desirable. Certification: Completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved certifying body pharmacy technician certification examination is required. Registration: Must have a current technician registration in good standing from the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy.
