General Summary/Overview Statement: At Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), the inpatient pharmacy has the best of both worlds - an innovative academic environment in a community hospital setting. The pharmacy at Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) is a dynamic department with cutting edge clinical services and state of the art automation and technology. Brand new pharmacy and cleanrooms under construction. We utilize EPIC for our Electronic Health Record (EHR), Pyxis technology for dispensing and have bedside barcoding implemented in all inpatient areas. All of the services we provide are performed with a focus on optimizing clinical outcomes and patient safety, increasing patient satisfaction and improving the financial sustainability of the organization.

The inpatient pharmacy team of pharmacists, technicians and interns work under the direction of the inpatient pharmacy manager to ensure safe medication dispensing, compounding and distribution.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities: the Inpatient Pharmacy Intern performs various aspects of pharmaceutical care in an inpatient pharmacy setting. Primary, essential job functions involve drug packaging and sterile compounding (ie; Total Parenteral Nutrition, OR irrigation solutions, critical care drips, IV antibiotic solutions), drug transport, handling of controlled substances, inventory management, record-keeping, drug monitoring and staff training. A commitment to patient safety, customer satisfaction, and efficient / effective use of resources, teamwork, innovation, and performance improvement is required.

Qualifications: Student working towards a doctor of pharmacy degree from an accredited school of pharmacy. Must have a current pharmacy intern registration in good standing from the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy. No experience required.
