This role provides clinical oversight for research study participants. The clinician serves as a contact for participant safety concerns, collaborates with the study team to address adverse events, and provides clinical oversight during research group visits.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide clinical oversight during intervention group visits to monitor participant well-being and ensure safety.
Conduct clinical assessments with study participants, including structured diagnostic interviews and symptom rating scales. Evaluate and respond to participant reports of suicidal ideation, self-harm, or potential harm to others, following study-specific risk management protocols.
Collaborate with the study safety monitoring team to address and document any adverse events or participant safety concerns. Serve as the primary clinical contact for participant safety concerns, including follow-up outreach and coordination with external mental health providers when necessary.
Collaborate with principal investigators, study coordinators, research assistants, and other team members to support safe study operations and inform ongoing risk mitigation strategies.
Stay informed of relevant clinical best practices and ethical standards in human subjects research and contribute to continuous quality improvement. • •Conducting consent visits when requested by the principal investigator.
Education/Experience:
Active professional license in relevant clinical discipline (e.g., LICSW, licensed psychologist, or MD).
Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience working with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, or other mental health conditions. Experience conducting clinical risk assessments (e.g., for suicidality, self-harm, or violence risk) and responding to crises in a healthcare or research setting.
Prior experience working on clinical trials or behavioral health research studies is preferred.
Familiarity with institutional research protections and human subjects research guidelines (e.g. adverse event reporting and definitions).
Qualifications and Skills:
Strong clinical judgment and the ability to assess, triage, and respond appropriately to participant safety concerns.
Proficiency in administering standardized clinical assessments and structured interviews. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage sensitively with study participants and to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
Knowledge of best practices in suicide risk assessment, safety planning, and crisis intervention.
High level of organization, reliability, and discretion with handling sensitive participant information.
Cultural humility and ability to work with diverse populations across racial, ethnic, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds. •Flexibility to occasionally work outside of standard hours to respond to participant needs or safety alerts, if required.
