Department Description

Responsible for the evaluation and treatment of an assigned caseload of adolescent inpatients, providing a range of psychosocial care. Works at Somerville Hospital adolescent inpatient site, under social work clinical supervision and administrative supervision at the service site.

Summary

Responsible for providing a variety of outreach and education services, and patient advocacy that is culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate for adolescent inpatient population. Develops community awareness of and facilitates the use of mental health care services for a variety of acute mental health issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provides psychosocial casework and referrals for clients (adolescents) and their families with medical issues and illness, substance abuse, and psychiatric illness. Casework takes place in an inpatient setting. 
  • Collaborates with multi-disciplinary team at service site, and specifically with the physician and social worker to provide outreach, concrete services, education, to patients and their families. Demonstrates a capacity to work collaboratively in a team setting, with an ability to listen to others, participate actively, and take appropriate responsibilities.
  • Collaborates with other caregivers, community agencies, and benefits/ entitlements offices as necessary to provide community based treatments.
  • Completes forms, documentation, statistics, and other paperwork tasks thoroughly and on time.
  • Provides all necessary documentation in clients’ medical charts in a timely fashion.
  • Participates in activities of the Cambridge Health Alliance Department of Social Work.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Social Work supervisor.

  • Bicultural and/or bilingual in the specific cultural/language group of the population/community served in a particular job.
  • Education/Training:
  • College degree or equivalent plus four years of experience in a relevant human service field.
  •  Work Experience: Experience working with relevant community groups preferred. Demonstrated experience working in multicultural and multidisciplinary settings
  • Physical Skills: Successful completion of physical agility assessment.
