As a Network Engineer, you will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity of our enterprise voice and data network, ensuring our healthcare providers have the reliable connectivity they need to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Engineer and maintain complex network designs, including topology diagrams and documentation for all CHA locations and business partners. 
  • Monitor and optimize network performance, resource availability, and bandwidth utilization to ensure maximum operational efficiency. 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues across LAN, WAN, Fiber Optic, and Wireless infrastructures. 
  • Design and manage critical IP address schemes and assignment mechanisms. 
  • Collaborate with junior and senior engineers to implement innovative networking solutions. 

Qualifications: 

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering (or equivalent professional experience). At least 4 years of hands-on experience implementing and maintaining large corporate networks. 
  • Deep knowledge of Juniper routers/switches, Aruba Wireless, and network security protocols like OSPF and TCP/IP. 
  • A commitment to teamwork, independent problem-solving, and continuous learning through certifications like JNCP. 

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) on-site position based at our Somerville campus. Reliable transportation is required for travel between sites, and you will participate in an on-call rotation once acquainted with the environment. 

 

Reporting to the Director of Network & Telecommunications, the Network Engineer will work under the lead engineer responsible for maintaining the Cambridge Health Alliance enterprise voice and data network. The Network Engineer will work with junior and senior network engineers, as well as other hospital staff while coordinating CHA network implementations, modifications, maintenance and ensuring consistency with the overall enterprise network design.Documents network designs and engineering changes.Maintains network topology, detailed diagrams reflecting the entire CHA network, including all remote locations and network connections to business partners.Monitors and coordinates maintenance of network hardware and software to ensure maximum operational efficiency of the network. Ensures proper maintenance of equipment, documentation of repairs, and proper inventory levels for all network equipment.Troubleshoots and resolves complex and extraordinary network problems.Monitors network response times, bandwidth utilization, and resource availability and recommends enhancements and solutions as warranted.Ensures network interoperability and efficiency between the LAN, WAN, Wide Area Fiber Optic Network, Wifi and the Internet.• Designs and manages the IP address scheme and IP address assignment mechanisms 


QUALIFICATIONS:• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or significant relevant work/professional experience in lieu of formal education. (4 year degree in related field plus 2 years experience, or 2 year degree in related field plus 4 years experience, or 6 years experience.)• Must be knowledgeable in the following areas/technologies. Juniper router/switches, Aruba Wireless networking and network security.• Must possess advanced, working knowledge of the following networking protocols/concepts: OSPF, DHCP, Trunking, VLANs, TCP/IP, etc.• Must possess solid, working understanding of network design concepts, including implementation/migration of routing protocols, layer 2/3 fault tolerance design, as well as secure networking technologies and concepts.JNCP or other network certification is desired but not required.• Minimum of 4 years’ hands on experience implementing and maintaining large corporate networks.On-site/on-premises required. Required to move from site to site
